Introduction

This collection of references to holiness, began with a conversation that I had with a friend during the fall of 1995.  During the conversation, she said that one of the priests at Holy Cross, our Catholic Parish, had made the following comment during a conversation with her.  His comment was: holy people like you.

She said, she was not sure if she was a holy person.   I told her, I thought she was a holy person.  Our conversation came to an end that day with our wondering, what is personal holiness.

This conversation, for whatever reason (I'm sure that it was the Holy Spirit) lingered in my mind.  Several days later as I was reading Scripture, I came across one passage that states that we are called to be holy.  Prior to this occasion, I had read references to human holiness many times without my responding to the Spirit.  But, this time, I experienced an awareness of the Spirits call.

My new awareness from these two occurrences would not leave me.  I prayed for further insight.

Sometime later, as I shared my subsequent experiences with my friend, I found us sharing a common desire to more fully understand the condition of human holiness.

Shortly after this second conversation, my friend gave me some reference material that I have included in this document. It is entitled: Spirit of Holiness.

Over the past several months, I have found myself continuing to encounter references to holiness.  As my awareness continues to grow, I find myself longing and praying for an additional discovery of a reference to holiness.  By now there is no need for me to say that I have begun to document each of my encounters with our calling to holiness.  As my journey continues, I plan to further my story.

This introduction was written for the First Edition, Part I of this manuscript dated February 19,1996.  Later editions and updates have further personal commentary listed in the front of each subsequent Part.
